Man Dead After Falling into a Creek in Monroe County

STROUDSBURG, Pa. — One man is dead after police say he fell into a creek in Monroe County.

Officials tell Newswatch 16 two men were fishing along the banks of McMichael Creek in Stroudsburg around 6:30 p.m. when one slipped and fell into the rapids.

The other man tried to pull him out but he fell in too. Both men were rescued by Stroud Area Regional police.

One of the men died at a nearby hospital. The other man is expected to be okay.

A woman who lives nearby told Newswatch 16 what she saw.

“I heard a guy say, ‘help, help, help, help,’ and apparently they got help, one of the cops came and helped him and said, ‘my buddy, my buddy’s in the water,’ so cops were trying and he was going downstream and you know, I was scared,” said Leila DeLonge.

Witnesses say the man who died was under water for several minutes before police could get to him in Monroe County.
